Outreach Ministry Report 2007
"Whatever you do for the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me." Matthew 25:40
MOMS DADS AND TOTS
A small group of dedicated ladies continue to give of their time to enable this group to meet on Tuesday mornings. We offer a programme of prayer time, story time and play time for the children, which gives the mothers an opportunity to interact with each other. Some mothers join in for the prayers and stories.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
As a gesture of support, two evenings during the year baking was brought in for both the Wednesday and Sunday night groups.
NEARLY NEW SALES
We again held two sales this year, enabling members of the community to get items at a reasonable price.
Items left over were sent to St. Michael's Mission, Auberge Madeleine and the Salvation Army on Pierrefonds Boulevard.
ST. MICHAEL'S MISSION
In addition to clothes from the Nearly New Sales, collections of warm socks, gloves, hats, underwear, disposable razors and baking were taken to them during the year. White Gift Sunday (Christmas) provided gifts for more than seventy men.
Along with the gifts, baking was also taken in and we sang Christmas carols and interacted as much as we could. This gesture was very much appreciated.
AUBERGE MADELEINE
At Easter we provided nineteen baskets with bath towels and personal items and at Christmas, gifts from White Gift Sunday were taken in along with baking.
FAIR TRADE EVENING
In order to encourage members of the Church to support fair trade projects we had a display of coffee, teas and chocolates, as well as a video relating to Dix Milles Villages and some of the items sold by them. A representative was on hand to explain and answer questions.
PRIMATE'S WORLD RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FUND (PWRDF)
As in past years, Lenten offerings and a dinner held the second week-end after Easter, raised $2,728.91, Youth Group $132.55 and Sunday School pennies $69.97. The guest speaker was Rob Shropshire from Equitas.
We also sold PWRDF Christmas cards this year.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT SUNDAY (Tin or Tooney)
We continue on the Sunday of each month to collect money for the Food Cupboard which is used should we have request during the year, at the end of the year the balance goes towards the Christmas baskets.
CHRISTMAS BASKETS
Greendale Elementary School, joined us again this year, in sorting the items and taking an inventory. This was a very positive experience. Hot chocolate and home made oatmeal cookies were served.
In the evening we had carol singing, in which the community and members of the Church and their friends participated and the Youth Group all hands joined in to pack the boxes.
This year we delivered twenty-five on the West Island through the West Island Volunteer Bureau and nine through the Prison Ministry. All children received gifts as well as a package from Sunday School that included mittens or gloves (many thanks to the knitters from the congregation and Emmanuel School), a candy cane and a bookmark with the story of the candy cane.
UGANDA
We had a request, through Barratt Ministries, for treated mosquito nets. The congregation generously responded and $1,000.00 Cdn was raised.
SENIOR LUNCHES
Two very successful lunches were held this year. All attendees had a good time.
THANK YOU SUNDAY To show our appreciation to the congregation for its support during the year we had a "thank-you" Sunday with displays and goodies.
This year we welcomed three new members to our Committee.
My sincere thanks to members of the Committee for enabling this work to be accomplished.
