Sunday School Report - 2007

2007 was a year of transition for Sunday School.  Three students 'graduated' from Grade 6 into youth group in June.  Registration in September 2007 was 12 students.  However, average weekly attendance ranges from 4  8 students as attendance is not consistent.  Because of low numbers in the lower classes in particular, it was decided in the Spring to hold 4 classes instead of 2 classes  an older class and a younger class, instead of classes divided by grade levels.  More recently, the decision was made to hold only one class as there was often only 1 student in the younger class.  This means group "one-room schoolroom" lessons.  However, there is hope for the future as we see many babies and toddlers in the congregation

Our Lenten project, once again, was collecting pennies for the PWRDF.  Sunday School also provided mittens for the children whose families received food baskets from St. Michaels as an Advent project, although with our numbers being so reduced, we relied on contributions of hand-knitted mittens from several "angels" in the congregation and outside donations.

Highlights during the year included making snowflakes to learn about how we are made in God's image but are all individual, lifesaver crosses for Easter and learning about the armour of God.

Sunday School prepared for Christmas by making Cinnamon applesauce stars and Baby Jesus ornaments as well as presenting  our annual pageant at the family service on Christmas Eve.

Sadly, this will be my last annual report as 2007-2008 marks not only my 10th year as Sunday School superintendent but my last.  I would like to say a special thank-you to all the teachers  Ann, Lydia, Angie & Sue - who help to make Sunday School a true team, working together to glorify Jesus by teaching children to worship Him.

Respectfully submitted,
Jackie Irwin
